After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {File_DirInqFileSpecByName (unicode): bad

I'm getting the following error while trying to collect files in AE CC:

After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {File_DirInqFileSpecByName (unicode): bad parameter} ( 3 :: 0 )

It happens right when I select "Collect Files…" so I don't see the dialogue box for collect files at all.

I'm compositing 2D animation. Source footage is QuickTime movies, ProRes 4444 with alpha and Layered PSDs.

I've saved the project out forCS6 and the collect files works there, but not in CC.

I narrowed it down to 4 short PNG sequences. I deleted them from the project and the collect files works, but it's strange that CS6 will work, but CC won't. These files work in every application so far, including AE, but just won't collect. Any reason for this?

Details and System Specs:

AE CC 12.0.0.404

iMac 27" mid 2011 (12,2) 3.4 Ghz i7

16Gb Ram, Radeon HD 6970m 2Gb vRam

internal SSD - Main system & Applications drive, 2TB Internal Secondary.

Source footage is on a 15TB external Thunderbolt Arc-8050 Raid-6

Drobo-2nd gen for Time Machine
