Stroke scaling for paths?

I have a "solid" layer with a "layer style" stroke applied. When the solid is scaled up or down, the stroke width stays the same.

I just need to incorporate a path line, but unfortunately a path stroke does not behave the same way. For example, if I scale up, the path stroke width looks bigger.

Is there any way that I can make a simple line that will stay the same size when I change the scale? I need to change the scale with a null, if that matters. I am using AE CC.
