I was really expecting my solution to be as simple as removing the DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component file because I don't have any extras on my machine.'

But, looking into my ~/Library/QuickTime folder revealed that I don't have that file (or anywhere else on my machine for that matter).
Here are the contents of that folder.
It takes a good 10-15 minutes for AE CC to even launch properly. I get a warning about Ray-tracing and CUDA which I understand is due to the limitations of my hardware, but then I get the same QuickTime installation error:
If I then try and open a previous project (after acknowledging that I'll have to convert from CS6 to CC) - I get the same 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported message:
One interesting side note:
This source .mov file hasn't been moved. It will open and play in Quicktime Player and Quicktime 7. But, when I select it in the Finder window and press the spacebar to get a "quicklook" at the file, it shows the file as having "Zero KB"... even though the Finder shows it's correct size at 12.9MB. I am able to preview other .mov files not associated with this project just fine using Quicklook.
