Setting up a MAC work computer on a Network

Hey everyone,

Ok, i'll cut to the quick. I wanted to see how I can configure my work computer to have After Effects CS6 on.

Here are the specs:

Mac OSX 10.6.8

3.06 GHz Interl Core 2 Duo

4GB 1067 MHz DDR3

ATI Radeon HD 4670

One thing that I could never understand was Disk Cache, Fast Previews, and Memory and Multiprocessing.

I never knew what folders I need to put the cache in, what to set Fast Previews to so I dont have my system be super slow, etc.

I have included screenshots of what my current configurations are.

One thing to keep in mind, is that my computer is on a Network, and I think even my desktop is included in the network..So I created a folder within my actual desktop hard drive, since I also read that your cache and your footage shouldn't be in the same place. Am I fooling myself here with my specs? Should I get an external SSD, or is there a way to use my current specs? I noticed that when I first used AE CS6 It was working fine, but now, things aren't rendering correctly, the Green RAM preview bar shows and then disappears, and I just wanted to see if its because of all these settings.

One question I had, was:

What folders should I have my disc cache in?

Another note I want to point out, is that our network isn't the most stable, and has been known to crash every so often, and I dont want to rely on it heavily, especially since we dont really do much after effects here and I dont want anything to weigh down the network heavily..

Anybody else have a similar machine to mine? Any tips and tricks you can afford to spare?

Thanks everyone, I would appreciate any help.Disk-Cache-01.jpgFast-Previews.pngMemory-and-Multiprocessing-01.png
