Not having the least interest in video or animation myself, I have not looked into After Effects in years. 

I've been an Adobe customer since the early 1980s and a user of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign for over a decade, or since those programs were launched, whatever came first. Been on the forums since the CompuServe days.

Am I totally wrong, or was there a time when After Effects was used by Photoshop users who, like me, did not need video features?  I am now surprised to see that AE is now mostly all about video editing.

I do have a sound reason for inquiring, but I don't want to bother the community with the details before they become pertinent.

It's already an mp4 I bought from iTunes, high quality. The video is a minute and nineteen seconds long, and goes from 8 megabytes before and 32 megabytes after, both being the exported results as mp4's. As you may or may not know, the author controls the time length of the composition, so the song cuts off automatically. I have also shortened the song on the timeline for good measure and hasn't made a difference. I've also tried reducing the quality of the audio and video through the render options when I queue it, but trying to render the video this way causes the program to freeze for about five minutes before responding with a cryptic message and about restarting the program. Even the song file size is only 8 megabytes, so the finished production shouldn't be so much. Any helpful advice?

I just installed Creative Cloud.  It seems to be working fine, except that when I try to apply Animation Presets into After Effects through Bridge, it gives me an error message saying "Can't import file xxx.fxx: unsupported filtype or extension"

 

I'm not trying to import a "file" or anything.... simply trying to apply an animation preset to a video clip on an AE timeline.  Never had any issues doing this with CS5.  Anyone know what's going on?

I am running into this issue with Adobe AE CC 2014 with both Mac and Windows versions in a classroom. Macs are running Mavericks, Windows are Win 7. Mac version of AE is 13.1.1.3. All CC 2014 apps are up to date. If I have a text layer selected and choose Animation > Browse presets… and then in Bridge double-click the effect preview to place that preset in AE, I get the above error. If I right-click the preset, the Place in After Effects option is greyed out - both Mac and Windows. However, I can apply the Preset from within AE using the Effects and Presets panel or using Animation > Apply Animation Preset just fine.

 

I have researched this issue and have found references going back to 2008 but without any actual solutions, only work-arounds. I have uninstalled Both AE and Bridge and reinstalled on both Mac and Windows and yet the problem remains. A fresh user account on the Mac has the same problem. I have trashed prefs and the Adobe Application support folder from the user library folder. The AE script is enabled in Bridge. Some systems have only ever had CC 2014, others have CC and CC 2014. On the dual install system, the double-click method in AE CC works as expected, but fails in CC 2014.

 

I hate to have my class leave without me showing them a solution. I'm hoping it's something simple that I'm missing, but so far the solution seems to have eluded everyone who has posted on the subject.

 

Any suggestions from those with hands-on experience with this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

 

I'm new to after effects, but not new the adobe programs. I could be considered a "power user" for several of their products. 

I'm currently trying to teach myself how to use After Effects with the classroom in a book series. In that teaching series, one of the things they are trying to teach is the integration between bridge and after effects to preview, and then export, effects. However, the integration between these two softwares is proving to be very buggy.

 

As per the instructions in the book, I'm supposed to be able to preview the text special effects in bridge, and then place them to a selected layer in after effects, but what usually happens is nothing. After several attempts, I came to the conclusion that this part of the software wasn't working. I was able to work around this by going to the effects panel in After effects and dragging and dropping it onto the selected layer. I only use bridge to preview.

 

Unfortunately, I've hit a technical snafu with loading an animated path. It's not working in the after effects panel, and when I try to export it from bridge as per the books instructions, I get this error message: "After Effects error: Can't import file "Pipes.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension."

 

Does anyone have an idea as to what's going on? I'm on a mac running mavericks, using the most recent downloads of Affects and Bridge.

I haven't used this feature in a long time, so I don't know if this is a configuration problem on my PC or something I am doing wrong. In the flyout menu of the Effects and Presets panel, selecting ""Browse Presets" brings up Adobe Bridge. If I double click on a preset, say the apparition background, AE shows:

 

After Effects error: Can't import file "Apparition.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension. (0::1)

 

However, if I try the same thing using the Animation menu->Apply Animation Preset->Open->....Apparition.ffx, it works fine.

 

AE Version: 13.1.1.3

Bridge Version: 6.1.0.116 x64

Windows 8.1

Dear all,

 

Using the CC range, and recently had a new problem using the animation presets from Adobe Bridge. I'm in After Effects as normal, and then go to the Animations drop down, click browse recent presets to open up Bridge, and then as normal use Bridge to select the preset I want. Double click it whilst highlighting my selected track in AE, and then AE reports this:

 

 

And the same error codes no matter what effect/animation I choose, whether its to an image, video or text.

 

If I just go, in AE, to my Recent Animation Presets, and choose one from there it loads up absolutely fine. But this is massively annoying.  Any ideas? This problem appeared out of nowhere.

I can't import any effects from Bridge anymore. I get the error 'can't import file "XXX.ffx" unsupported filetype or extension' and I can't 'place in After Effects' because it's greyed out?? Really annoying.

Buongiorno a tutti.

Da quando ho installato After Effects CC 14 e di conseguenza anche Bridge non è più possibile sfogliare le animazioni predefinite di After Effects con Bridge e applicarle facendo doppio clic.

Ogni volta che ci provo mi da lo stesso errore (posto un'immagine).

Qualcuno di voi sa cos'è successo?

Started happening after I upgraded to After Effects 2014, anybody know how to fix this?

Hi adobe community,

 

Just recently upgrade my AE via the desktop ap (I have full CC) and now my animation presets won't work? I get an error box

After Effects error: Can't import file "Fade Up Characters.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension

 

AE 14.1.1

 

I am trying to get the presets out of Bridge - do I need to also upgrade bridge? I can't see an upgrade for it on my desktop ap.

When I want to use the text animation presets I get an error message, an example is when I want to use a text "animate in" preset and got the following error message:  After Effects error:  Can't import file "Fly In From Bottom.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 ). I have check my bridge script settings and they are activated for After effects.

I am having an issue trying to get the text effects (.ffx) in Bridge (that use to open up in After Effects just fine) to open up in After Effects 2014 latest update. Is there a work around, setting or alternative I can use?

After installing the newest update of After Effects CC 2014 I am having troubles with my renders while using multiprocessing.

The color space I'm working in is a linearized 32bpc sRGB IEC61966-2.1  When I render without multiprocessing turned on, the render turns out fine, but with it turned on the resulting render is way too bright, as though the gamma has been lifted way too high. I would really like to be able to use multi-processing, since it cuts my render times down to a fifth of what they would be otherwise. Any advice would be much appreciated.

 

Also, just for fun I took my file back into After Effects CC (12.2)  and tried rendering it with multiprocessing without changing any settings and the render turned out just fine, making me think that this is specifically a CC 2014 problem.

Just installed the "Damn That Blue & Gray Looks Bad" update and I've noticed that when my cursor is not moving,  if I select a new tool using the keyboard, it doesn't change the cursor icon. It only updates it as soon as I move my mouse. Anyone else experiencing this?

 

(Windows 8.1 GTX 760 all drivers up to date)

While using hotkey 'C' to cycle through camera tools in Ae CC, the tool icon 'sticks' or gets stuck on a specific tool when the tool itself has actually changed to something else. e.g., while hitting 'C' enough times to pull up the zoom tool, the cursor will actually show the orbit tool.

Upgraded to AE CC 2014.1 yesterday and now the Bounding Box around layers does not appear when hovering the mouse down the layers in the timeline.

When dealing with many overlapping layers, a quick way of finding elements was to hover the mouse down the layers in the timeline which then showed a bounding box around that layer in the composition window.

 

Am I missing something? Has this been omitted... or is there a preference I can't see... or is this a bug?

Hi,

 

Im really enjoying the new look. Thanks to everyone on the AE team for this new release.

 

I have a few questions.

 

- My tool tips don't work for the motion blur/frame blending icon panel in the timeline. This is ok for me but has stumped some of our trainees.

- The feature where you could hover the curser over a layer in the timeline and see a wire frame display of the bounding box for that layer in the project panel is missing for me. Is there a new preference for this?

- I always have my preview panel set to loop but when i fire up AE it will always stop at the end of a comp unless I cycle through the looping options. This seems strange.
