AE Cache

I've noticed that After Effects sometimes 'remembers' old files or settings.

For example, I change a file in a composition (with the same name as the old one), the old file still appears (this seems particularly true of audio files).

I've also noticed that if I changed some settings (project frame rate for example), it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Clearing the cache doesn't seem to do  much good.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Liquify stops working

Hi!

I'm not sure if it is me who is missing something, but seems like liquify effect many times suddenly quits working.

What happens is I don't get the "pen" that I draw with usually (when liquify works), but the cursor just stays like the normal cursor in AE. If I drag on the picture, nothing happens.

I thought I knew how to use liquify, is this a bug or could I be doing something stupid?

I'm new to all this video editing thing, and have been trying to edit and render with my laptop. Now i had the chance to help a company to get rid of 10 desktop computers with intel core duo prosessor from 1.8 to 3.0GHz. Is it possible to build a rendering farm from these unit? only problem is that none of them has a hardrive, do i need to buy hardrives to make somethins out of them?

Highly appreciating Your time and help!

AE 2014.1.1 does not recognise my Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 anymore

I bought the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 (2GB Vram) card specifically to work on my Mac Pro 2012 with After Effects CC and it worked fine.

Now I've upgraded to AE 2014.1.1 and I get an error stating I have no compatible CUDA card and to install at least CUDA 5.0 (I have the very latest 6.0.54 installed)

Any ideas what has happened and how to get AE to recognise a card it used to know?

TIA

Kevin

AfterEffects CC retina display

Hey guys,

So I'm running After Effects CC on a Retina screen. Adobe says that AE CC should scale up to 200% to meet the requirements of the higher resolution but I can't seem to find where to enable that feature.

Any ideas will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Why can't I redo after moving time indicator?

I'd like to understand why is it that you can only redo an action if you haven't moved the time indicator.

Let me try to make it clear. I'm talking about the following steps:
1. Do something in the timeline.
2. Undo it.
3. Redo it (works)

vs.
1. Do something in the timeline.

2. Undo it.

3. Move time indicator.
4. Redo it ( won't work)

Anyone else experiencing it?

Does Cinema 4D Lite support importing FBX files?

$

I've tried every FBX file I could, I've exported FBX files using every version of FBX available to me (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014) but every time I try to import an FBX file into Cinema 4D Lite (launched from AE CC, everything updated and current) I get a dialog with some options, then a second dialog with information about the available takes and animation length (which is must get from the file) and then I get an error message "Unable to read file <filename>".  Doesn't seem to matter what FBX I choose.  Every FBX file is readable by Autodesk's FBX Review app so I don't think it's the file(s).  Maxon's website seems to indicate that importing FBX was supported by the Lite version of Cinema 4D included with AE CC, but near as I can tell that's not true.  Am I missing something?  Is there some option I need to check or a specific way I should create an FBX file?  I'm running on Windows 7 64bit with current drivers and everything is updated.  I get the feeling this just doesn't work at all by design.

Is it possible to export a 3d mesh created in Photoshop CC into After Effects CC?

Is it possible to use a 3d mesh created in Photoshop CC and import it to After Effects, completely intact?

I created a single-plane, 3d mesh from a 2 dimensional photograph in Photoshop CC and want to incorporate it in an animation in After Effects.  I'm aware of the extrusion options offered in After Effects CC, but I wanted to retain the particular style of the 3d mesh from Photoshop (also, is it true true that extrusions in After Effects CC are only available for vector based stuff?).

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

[a side question: can one create a 3d mesh from a 2d photo in Cinema 4d lite and then perhaps use this in After Effects CC?]

I want to stop the particle flow?

Hello, i'm making a particle system with 'Particular' but i got a question, when i play the particles the particles start from nothing and then they continue to be animated until the end (as a default) but i want to somehow 'freeze' the particles to be able to animate them manually, because i want it to move the particles slowly since i'm doing a ashes simulation, i need to use only those particles so i want to know how can i mantain the particles still (not with freezing the frame) so i can be able to change parameters along the timeline.

Please help!

Hi there,

Again apologies in advance for the beginner's question.

When exporting to Adobe Media Encoder for rendering, I get unresolvable errors from Video Copilot's Element 3D. Not really sure where to start to fix it...

Thanks!

Upgraded to Mac Yosemite, now AE doesn't work at all. What can I do?

I own the Master Collection for Adobe CS6 on MAC. I upgraded to Yosemite before realizing that it would cause many of my Adobe purchases to stop functioning. I need After Effects to work so that I can complete a project I've been working on. Does anyone know a solution?

constant warp stabilizer crash with CC AE

I have used warp stabilizer a lot in the past, and don't recall it ever crashing. Today, it will does nothing but crash. I have warp stabilizer with 4 different pieces of footage, and every attempt results in a crash. On two occassions, immediately after completing the analyzing process (1st step) AE went into auto-save mode, but the progress indicator never started. Activity seemed to cease for 3+ minutes, so I assumed the worst and chose to force quit. Other attempts simply crash immediately after the analysis step.

The footage I have tried to stabilize is 1920 x 1080 MTS and MOV files. I have worked with the files before, and they play back fine, showing no sign of corruption. FWIW, I tested one of the video files in CC Premiere Pro and warp stabilizer worked without crashing.

I rebooted my Mac, cleared all AE caches, rebooted AE a second time, tried to stabilize new footage, but same results.

My machine is a Mac 5,1 with 32GB RAM, OS X 10.8, CC AE 12.1.0.168

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Comp viewer becomes flat blue at certain zoom levels

$

This is a problem I've had with several different versions of After Effects, and on more than one computer and I haven't been able to find any information about it.

Sometimes, especially after RAM previewing, my comp viewer will turn blue and I can't see my work unless I'm at a different zoom level. Sometimes after a while another zoom level will turn blue also.

I've tried purging, which solves the problem in the short term, but it tends to come after a short while. Thoughts? Thank you!Screen Shot 2014-12-03 at 4.14.20 PM.png

No Refreshed Interface Design in After Effects CC 2014

Sort of an odd question, but how do you change the interface design in After Effects CC 2014 to be the new "Refreshed Interface Design"? Like with the blue text color, borders, and different look panels (as seen in the first image linked). I updated to Adobe After Effects CC 2014 yesterday, and for some reason, my interface design has not changed at all. Is there somewhere in preferences where I can change this? I would appreciate any help, thanks.

What it is supposed to look like:

Dynamic Link Aspect Ratio

$

I have a dynamically linked AE composition in Premiere. I've done all my effects in AE and want to preview it in Premiere.

It looks great but whenever I select my AE composition and click Sequence > Render Selection it makes the footage from the comp look like it is squished and in the wrong aspect ratio. Is this a known issue?
I can't understand why when I render it to watch it back it squishes the image but when the bar is red the image looks correct and as i see it in AE.

When I originally exported my AE comps my footage was squished so I changed my AE comp to Square Pixel, could that be the problem? Although I did a test of sending a clip to an AE comp making no changes and rendering the comp and it did the same where it squished the image.

Any workaround would be great or if anyone has had this issue and knows how to fix it that would be awesome too.

Thanks in advance.

H264 made with FFMPEG not read correctly

So I've found that encoding a video file to an h264 using FFMPEG is creating a file that is missing the first two frames in CC 2014.1.1

This problem only started in the latest version of  CC 2014 and does not present itself CC 2014.0

Here is the command used to encode:

ffmpeg -i input.mov -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -b:v 50000k output.mov

Anyone else noticing certain h264 files not coming into your Adobe products properly?

WHY AFTER EFFECTS STILLS SO SLOW IN THE NEW MAC PRO?

$

I have the new mac pro with this settings:

3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5

64 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ECC

AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB

Software OS X 10.9.2

And the AE performs slower than in my old mac pro. I have set the preferences as seen on all those tutorials on this site, I have an SSD external disc for cache files, memory and multiprocessing settings correctly...and previews are very very slow, and I can not even render a single comp without waiting 10 minutes. I am very disappointed and frustrated with this situation...

Am I missing something?

Importing Blender to After Effects

$

Not that it much matters, but I'm running AECS3 on Win XP. Anyway, what I'm trying to do is find a way to import 3d files I created in Blender 2.5 into After Effects. I've spent quite some time trying to find a script or something that will work, but without much luck. The scripts I've found are for earlier versions of Blender and may not be compatible with 2.5.

Does anyone know of a script that will either:

  • (from the Blender side) Export a Blender 2.5 scene/object in a format that AE will be able to import; OR
  • (from the AE side) Add a Blender export format* to AE's list of file types it can import?

One other thing: Why can't AE import .obj files? That's an extremely common (from my experience since I also do some work in DAZ, and have played around with Cinema 4D which is way out of my budget) format for 3d....

* The formats that Blender 2.5 exports are:

  • Collada .dac
  • 3D Studio Max .3ds
  • Autodesk .fbx
  • Lightwave .mdd
  • Wavefront.obj
  • Stanford .ply
  • X3D .x3d

Thanks

Does anyone know how to How to import image sequences which were rendered in layers from Blender to AE?

I've used .png, targa, .tiff & even openEXR Multilayer but none has worked for me so far.

AE CC 2014 Export to C4D not saving any file

$

I just got into CC (was using CS6) and today I wanted to export a C4D file from AE, like I have done always with AE CS6, but there seems to be a problem. I click on export, Maxon Cinema 4D Exporter, then select the folder and type the file name, click save and it closes like normal, but the file I supposedly saved, is not created anywhere. Anyone has the same issue?
