Not sure why you guys would change such a common and integral color scheme for the keyframes. Unless I'm missing something, this newest update is really messing with my ability to see what keyframes are selected. In CC (and prior to 13.1) we had nice, bright, yellow keyframes when they were selected. Now it's a green? color when selected that does not contrast enough against the timeline background. Admittedly, I'm a bit red/green color blind so it's even more difficult for me, but if you choose to change the way keyframes are colored, please please PLEASE allow us to change the color manually. In fact, that would be my request for many features due to color blindness issues, but I'll be happy with just reverting back to yellow for selected keyframes.
Hello,
I have read a lot about this problem, but none of the solutions I found (mainly deleting the entire Adobe folder in the preferences) solved it.
This is what we have:
Adobe After Effects CC 2014
Mac OS 10.10.1
Quicktime 7 Pro and 8
On startup, AE takes a very long time, idling on "Initialising Mediacore". When the program finally opens, we get this message: "Quicktime is not installed on this system, some components will not work".
How can I fix this ?
Thank you!
I'm having trouble rendering Quicktime H264 MOV files in both AE and AME.The rendering fails and the error message in AE says, "Rendering error while writing file... An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted (-1610153464)", and in AME, the render fails and the log says Encoding failed, unknown error. I've read online (can't find it now) that computers with a high core count will have trouble rendering Quicktime H264, and sometimes setting the Memory & Multiprocessing prefs to allow less cores will work, but I tried that and it didn't work. My computer has 36 cores, Has anyone had this issue and been able to solve it? Thank you for your help in advance!
Hi there,
I need to install AE CC on 10 blade servers, but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this withou doing it through the CC app.
There seems to be no sign of AE CC as a standalone app.
And no-one seems to be answering on this forum.
Can I take it then that this isn't possible?
Would it not be possible to create a standalone version of AE which is render only, and doesn't need to be installed via the CC app.
It's the ONLY CC app that works like this...
Would make it a lot easier for render farms and thus serious post work....
Could´t file open, your project has been made in 64b win7 10.5.1.What´s happening?How can I resolve ?
Hi all,
Confession: I am generally confused about render settings and output modules, so forgive me if this question seems stupid.
Problem 1: Where does AE store the default render settings and output module files (I'm on Windows 7)? I want to backup a copy of these in case I mess them up, but can't find the folder. I think they are .aom and .ars files, but I just upgraded my CC 2014, lost all my custom settings, and want to save the defaults before I try loading my various customized files to see if I can get my settings back. When I search for *.aom or *.ars, I can't find any "default" settings from later than 2013 (I would think there would be a newer one somewhere.
Thanks in advance,
Lori
I use an older version of After Effects (AE CS4). I recently built a new workstation that is bootable into different choices of multicore (up to 40 cores).
I can successfully start AE CS4 on the boot configs up to 16 cores. But above that, AE CS4 won't start. It won't even show the splash screen (but the AfterFX_32.exe process does appear in Task Manager).
Just wondering if there is any way to get AE CS4 to run on configs with more than 16 cores?
Thanks for any ideas!
Hello guys! I wonder if is there any possibility to do a hight resolution screenshot with transparency, copy it and then past somewhere?
For example: I am using very cool plugin which generate stunning 3D text. And I am also making a poster. So I would like to do my 3D Text in After Effects and then copy this and paste in my different graphics software. Woulb be it nice if that screenshot has also a transparency.
Here is an EXAMPLE what I want to get:
Is that thing even possible? I will be very grateful for tips.
(I know that I can do a generaly Windows screenshot and that paste it, but that kind of screenshot will be have also a solid background. I and don't want to delete them after pasting. So I am searching a better way to do it).
Hello everyone,
I have been asked to create a well documented thread regarding several issues that "I feel" seem to be related in regards to After Effects and memory. It seems a large amount of Mac users have posted that they have been experiencing troubles with rendering, whether this is a RAM preview or a full render from the render queue. I am not alone in my complaint nor in my request for a full fix; there are many related posts.
I have two identical mac pros to test/render with; one system is on Mavericks and one system is on Yosemite. This is to prove without a doubt that is has NOTHING to do with the OS.
Mac Pro (Late 2013)
OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 OR Mavericks 10.9.5
3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
Macintosh HD
AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB
The After Effects version is the latest (today I updated): 13.2.0.49
When I attempt to render out a sequence that is short with little effects, it will render out. Anything that is a bit more complicated, I am getting some serious memory crashes. It is as if the RAM is not clearing old RAM in the cache.
Step 1
I am rendering out a CG scene for an upcoming short film. It is taking 4 hours to render out 20 seconds (which again may be related to Adobe not playing nice with RAM and OS X). About 1.5 hours in it was using 32% of the available system ram. At 2.5 hours in (as seen below in the screenshot) it is now using 75% of 16 GB.
Step 2
As I am writing this I am simply waiting until the application will eventually crash and it will give me the famous:
"Unable to allocate 0.000 MB of memory, Either decrease the memory requirements for rendering of this frame, or install more RAM...."
Points of Note
Solution
I have been unable at this point to find a satisfactory solution.
One Adobe forum employee, who will remain nameless, has criticzed me for saying that the RAM issues that have gone unresolved for more than a period of one year are related. Sorry, the issues are RELATED. These issues seem to be related only to MAC users regardless of their hardware.
Post #1:"Unable to allocate 0.000 MB of memory, Either decrease the memory requirements for rendering of thi
- In this post a user from over a year ago posts initial reports regarding AE CC crashing due to memory requirements while rendering. This post is related.
- The "correct answer" is not correct as users have stated that the update suggested did not fix the problem
- The problem in this post is 100% mac users reporting
Post #2:"Unable to allocate memory" popup on Quit
- In this post the user reports that he is also having the "unable to allocated" ram message, but when he quits
- This post is over 1 year old
- a MAC user
- Several other posters recently have reported that they are getting a similar memory error
- This post is related because although he is getting a memory error when quitting and NOT when rendering, it is a similar error message on a MAC system and may help Adobe to find the solution
Post #3: unable to allocate enough memory to render current frameunable to allocate enough memory to render current frame
- This post is over 6 months old and also unresolved by Team Adobe
- The user also tried many of the tricks I did to try and render
- This post is intimately related, although he is getting the memory error during ram preview and not when doing a final render the RAM usage by After Effects would likely be very similar; if an Adobe engineer tells me they are not, I will then mark this post as un-related
- the SUGGESTED ANSWER of audio scrubbing UPDATE has NOTHING to do with the original poster's statement; just wanted to point that out
I've seen probably 2-3 dozen related posts regarding RAM issues like mine at the posts above. Most of the "suggested answers" in these posts suggest the original poster to update their After Effects to a latest version. In the majority of these cases the original poster replies that the update did not solve their issue.

Matthew
Hello All,
I wanted to start experimenting with After effects - just to check it out. However as soon as I tried to open it up I got the message that my version of Ae is not Compatible with my current OS. My version of Ae is CS6 11.0 and my OS is OS X 10.9.5
My other CS 6 programs I use regularly works : Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Dreamweaver.
Any advice?
I made an image on illustrator with multiple layers, I selected release layers to sequence. I have tried doing this both with the layers grouped and un-grouped. I am saving this as an .ai (adobe illustrator file).
When I take this into After Effects I am importing file, and selecting composition retain layer sizes. I have it set to enable all acceptable files and I have tried importing it both with the illustrator/pdf/eps sequence checked on, and not checked.
As far as tutorials/help online says I am doing all these steps properly and have tried everything I can think of.
I'm not sure what to do from here to get my layers separated in After Effects. As it is right now I can import the .ai file but it it is imported as one layer instead of multiple layers.
I have made template in Photoshop to be used in After Effects by other people. The template includes a smart object layer which replicates into different instances.
Is it possible to edit the smart object image in Adobe After Effects?
I've successfully added text using 3d camera tracker to a bridge and maintained perspective without issue. On this piece it is a handheld shot and I need to replace a part of a poster and no matter what target I select I seem to lose perspective and can't make it fit. The targets are very hard to tell if they are at the proper angle. ans using the tracker only results in about 20 track points on the poster itself. Suggestions?
While trying to render a scene in after effects that i created in cinema 4d of a bar (bear in mind, bars have lots of transparent glass and liquids in them) i get the 'unable to write file' render error. in cinema 4d lite, in my render settings, when i turn off transparency, refraction, reflection, and shadows, the render works. what should i do in order to render in after effects and keep all of my transparency, refraction, reflection, and shadow detail?
I need to send a client some collected projects, but the File > Dependencies > Collect Files command is not collecting some of the files (after the project has been reduced, so all the files in the project are required), including the project file!
I just end up with a collected folder containing a "Footage" folder that includes some of the files and not others. This is a nightmare!! There are hundreds of files that will take days I do not have to manually track each file down.
Any suggestions?
J
Hey guys,
I´ve got an idea for a project, but I don´t know which effect could help me out in this case.
I would like to duplicate parts of a video, without erasing the other material or copying the whole video.
Because I don´t really know how to describe the problem, I´ve attached an link with an example underneath:

Hi!
Is it possible to reference a shape path from a shape layer as the path for the text to follow?
