Inserting dingbats in AE on a Mac
I open the Mac character viewer, to search for, say, a checkmark. I see it listed, but can't insert it into AE CS6. I've tried copy, double-click and cursing, to no avail. It used to work long ago.
What's the secret incantation to load dingbat-type characters into AE CS6 on a Mac under Mavericks?
Any assistance gratefully received.

Surface Pro 3 Surface Pen does not function properly
This seems as though it would be a driver issue with the Surface or the pen itself, but they both behave normally in every other program. The drivers are up to date, and the pen input works correctly in Photoshop CC, Flash CC, and even Premiere Pro CC.
After Effects seems to not recognize the pen input. Hovering the pen shows the cursor where you would expect, but when I tap the screen, nothing seems to happen. Usually once this happens, the pen continues to not register any clicks. Once this is happening, moving the cursor with the trackpad causes the cursor to move, but as I was clicking and dragging, and continues to do so until clicking with the trackpad.
I have managed to use the paintbrush and eraser very rarely, after making a stroke while holding the eraser button. I can't seem to replicate that reliably. Sometimes the brush will work when holding the eraser button, but most times it will not. The right-click button behaves similarly, occasionally pulling up the right-click menu, but more often not.

Audio spectrum problem.
I am using Ae for a month or two and I've never had problems with Audio spectrum since yesterday. I have no idea what happened.I've tried a lot things to solve it but none worked such as reinstalling the program and rendering in different formats I cannot explain what the problem is so please check out this video; Bug - YouTube
I really need your help because I upload videos everyday and I have to stop!

Disk Cache piling up
Hi,
I have a "problem" with After Effects disk caches that don't get emptied from the application itself, but have to be emptied manually. They eat a lot of hd-space (multitude of GigaBytes).
What I found, that at least when I select clip(s) in Premiere Pro and make then an Adobe Dynamic Link => New After Effects Composition, this procedure starts to pile cache files to a location:
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/11.0
to a folder called: "Adobe After Effects Disk Cache - <computername>.noindex"
That cache does not get emptied from anywhere in After Effects, selecting to empty the caches in AE does not remove them. So, I found them with a laborous manual search.
Now, I suppose (but don't know) that this folder can be deleted without any harm? Secondly, I would expect After Effects or Premiere Pro to be able to find and empty these caches on demand. This is not the first time I've noticed Adobe applications start to eat mysteriously hd-space, but it is the first time I'm able to locate where and from which process. Would anyone have a comment?

After Effect Composition turns black
Hello, I have a problem with my AE composition. I've been importing new layers to my AE composition, however suddenly the composition screen turns black. All the keyframes are still there and as I slide the button across the timeline, I can see the keyframes are still there. I tried undo-ing my steps to see if I made a mistake that rendered the screen all black, but no luck. I assume I might have accidentally clicked a function/view that triggers the screen to turn black, but I'm not sure what function that was. I also first thought I activated the wireframe view but as I switched it back to the normal view, still no luck.
If anybody could help me troubleshoot this problem, that would be great. Thank you so much I'd really appreciate it.

nVidia GTX970m Intel HD Integrated Graphics Issue
Been struggling for a while to get this sorted. Had the laptop custom build in the UK. It's a beast, really great laptop and apart from the screen tearing and render lag issues until now, it's been great.
Both the latest versions of AF 2014 and 2015 didn't like the GTX card at all. I got serious screen tearing and sync issues, even after updating nVidia and Cuda drivers.
I ended up forcing afterfx.exe to use the Intel HD integrated graphics and it seem to have sorted most of my render issues. No more screen tearing, no more sync issues.
Kinda bumbed that the GTX and AF don't want to play together. Anyone else have similar issues with nVidia cards?

Saving Projects with Warp Stabilized Footage takes Forever
Hi,
1)
I have 8 comps in my project all enjoying the wonderful stabilization of Warp Stabilizer.
When I save the project - it takes 10 minutes. Removing all the Warp Stabilizers from the footage it takes 1 second.
2)
Having done all my work in the 8 comps all having Warpy applied to them then dragging the comps over to Adobe Media Encoder for rendering takes about 20 minutes.
Removing Warp Stabilizer from the Comps and repeating above takes 1 minute.
I think that warp stabilizer is great but then workflow slowness hit is devastating.
Is all this normal behavior ?

Change a color to white
Hi,
I'm new to AE so please bare with me.
I have a car that is white with a big logo on it. I want to remove the logo of the car.
I can't use the "change to color" effect because white isn't in the hue spectrum and besides that it isn't a color.
I tried duplicating the movie-layer, create a mask of another white part, and placed it over the logo but that just didn't work because of the shades over the car paint.
Any ideas how to deal with this?

Align logo with different layers in After Effects
Hello,
I created a logo with 3 layers in AI and imported into AE. Unfortunately the logo was no longer in the middle of the screen. I tried to align the logo in AE in the center of the screen but when i did, all the layers centered in the middle of the screen crossing each other. It's is intended that the ratio between the layers 3 remains the same. So the whole logo must be centered. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Layer from another file keeps appearing
Last week I was working on a project, and today I am looking to working on a new project.
However, in the composition window when I try and preview my animation in the new project it keeps flashing up with a layer from the other file, even if all my layers are hidden/ not visible
Please find the attached image to illustrate what I mean a bit better. The image shown isnt even from the correct project and theres no such file in my project window.

why is After effects dumping LOGS into the root of my hard drive?
There are 2 NEW text files at the root of my drive.
names:
PDApp.log
C/\Users\stavila\Desktop\debug\timestamps.txt
PDApp.logs
appears to be a LOG file for adobe.
C/\Users\stavila\Desktop\debug\timestamps.txt
has NO identifying characteristics, so I have to go with the fact that it was created while After Effects was rendering.

Rotoscroping/Brush/ Problems
Hi there
I've been working on the project for about a week now and i finally figured out a few things with rotobrushing and a few other things etc, When coming to render out the project the roto brushed layer doesn't show up at all when it renders out, I've looked over everything i can think of, i've unchecked layers and rendered out things but every time i just get the background and not the subject it. I was wondering what i'm doing wrong or if i have to start again etc. I've attached some screenshots of the project 
Does anyone know what is happening?

Color Finesse 3 LE keeps entering Trial Mode in After Effects 2015.3 (Windows 10)
I am trying to use the Color Finesse Plugin on a newly installed, device License based Version of Adobe After Effects CC. It does not seem to be running properly because it keeps entering trial mode by displaying a magenta grid alongside a Text in the upper left corner saying:
Synthetic Aperture
Color Finesse Trial Mode
When I restart After Effects, the grid has disappeared only to reappear again after using CF for a while on different layers, mostly after application of presets.
Here is what I have tried so far with no success:
Deleting the Registry entry as discribed on the Synthetic Aperture Website to force CF into reregistration.
Uninstalling and reinstalling After Effects.
The problem might be connected to After Effects not being included in the Creative Cloud Installer Package that I installed. I installed After Effects using the Creative Cloud Desktop App choosing the „Try“ Option expecting it to register automatically as CC is running on a device based ALL Apps license. For reasons which go beyond me, that didn’t seem work out, as After Effects kept telling me I was using a Trial Version of the program without further options or instructions to register using the adobe account with the ALL apps license. I reinstalled After Effects using a separate package created by Create Cloud Packager, but, while the After Effects Trial Problem seemingly did go away, the CF trial problem didn’t. The License Number displayed by CF did not change after reinstalling After Effects or deleting the registry entry.
Any suggestions?

Keylight Crashing After Effects
Hello,
For the past few weeks Keylight has been crashing on me constantly while i use Ram Preview. It's a right pain especially when you are working on a green screen heavy project with a deadline looming. Several weeks ago it worked fine, no issues. However recently its just been crashing non stop, after checking my events viewer every error log states 'KEYLIGHT' as the problem. I currently have the newest most up to date version of the the software, have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software, tried downgrading to previous versions of After Effects and have even re installed windows several times. I even changed my graphics card in a hope that would solve the issue but nope. My new graphics card driver is up to date and I have tried the keylight 1.2v16 update via The Foundry
I have contacted Adobe Technical support but they said that it's an issue with Keylight and to take it up with the. I have tried to get in contact with the Foundry numerous times via male and phone... but to no avail.
I have noticed several people have a similar issue to me, and I was wondering if they have found a solution to this?

3d Objects controlled by null object?
I have an animation set up in AE comprising a number of solids/text/images, which are all 3D layers and the 'camera' movement is controlled by a null object. I don't have a camera setup as it seems unnecessary. I don't have any camera footage, just stuff I have created.
I want to add a 3D object (.3ds) and be able to place that in the scene and therefore also be moved by the null object.
Apparently this used to be easy using 'Live Photoshop 3D', but now seems to be very difficult and involves using c4d files and flicking between the two and trying to send camera movements between them. I haven't decided on the final camera movement yet, so don't want to get into a situation where I'm doing two lots of movement and having to match them over and over again.
What is the best method?
I'm relatively inexperienced with After Effects, but am a quick study...!

Tracker stalls after 2015.3 upgrade
I'm on a mac, just upgraded to 2015.3, and now, the 2D tracker stalls after, maybe 10 frames or so... "Forward" button still active, but I have to click it, it does maybe 5 to 10 more frames and stalls again. Track is ultimately fine, but this behavior just popped up after the new version installed. Any thoughts? Thanks

instead of changing to the griffindor flag shown in this video Gryffindor Wins the House Cup - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. - YouTube , if i wanted it to change to another flag like a pirate flag, how difficult would it be to do? and how would i go about doing it?
i saw some videos where 2 masks are created, 1 on the object before transformation and the other for the object after....and then use the morph effect but idk if that would work here with how the flags are moving
