I have footage of a dance performance on stage that I would like to add a title to. The footage begins on a fairly dark stage with a purple background screen, the dancers enter onto the stage as silhouettes in front of the screen. I would like to add the title of the dance onto the purple screen behind the dancers. How would I go about doing this?
I'm having some issues when rendering a quick stop motion video I'm working on. It's being a real nuisance, but 9 times out of 10 when I render it, it won't play or takes an incredible amount of time before loading the video, or plays just a black screen. It's a 4 second long video. The composition is set up with a sequence of jpegs. I initially started working on the project on my laptop, and after encountering the rendering issues, I thought that maybe the laptop wasn't powerful enough to kick out a video (very disappointing to think considering it's 4 seconds) I've tinkered around with the render settings but nothing I do seems to help much. I'll render it out once and it won't work. Next time with the same render settings, it will. Then I'll try again and it breaks again.
My main concern is the lack of consistency in the renders working/not working. I'm wondering if it's just this one comp being funny or if it's After Effects itself or maybe my render settings or my PC. But after moving from laptop to Desktop PC it's still having the same issues.
I'm running After Effect CS6 on Windows 10. Both are up to date.
My composition is 4 seconds at 23.976 framerate.
Render settings I've tried so far have been been pretty standard. Render settings at "Best Settings" and the Output set to Lossless with it being output as an .avi (i've also tried as a .mov with no luck) I've tried a few different codecs in both .avi and .mov outputs but honestly which would help and which would make it worse so I thought to ask.
For 4 secs, it is rather large, with the Comp set at 5184x3456 (the size of the jpg's in the animation). I'm not sure if that would even effect anything, but the few times I've had marginal success in rendering was when I changed the render resolution from "full" to "half."
I'm not sure what other information to include. I render out videos regularly, but they're usually edits of other video I've shot. I've never had this issue with those videos. Ideally, this stop motion video will be edited into a much longer video of recorded footage. This is my first stop motion render and I didn't expect this much of a hassle from 4 secs of video. Any comments or advice would be appreciated!
Hi, I am currently trying to import a 3d scene from 3DS Max into AE. I imported the camera and null data from the shot and created a scene and 3d elements to go with it. I rendered it out as an exr sequence, however when I import it back to AE, the file is invisible. Any helps on this? I''ve been trying different things for a few days now and can't figure it out. Just really want to finish this so I can composite. Any help??

I just picked up a Surface Book and am testing to see if it can run Adobe After Effects. (Core i7 / 1TB SSD / 2016 model (not the Performance Base) Everything is up to date with the latest drivers and Windows/Adobe programs.
2017 crashes pretty regularly, but always during preview. I installed 2015 and 2014. I tried new projects, old projects that I know are just fine on my desktop. I do a lot of chroma work. Keylight barely loads and if it does it crashes. 2014 will at least start to build a RAM preview before crashing. Turning Keylight off still crashes.
I get this error a lot:
Adobe Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <6696> <prefetch> <5> RequestPrefetchedFrame frame not in async list!
Is the Surface Book just not compatible with Adobe? Is Adobe not compatible with the Surface Book?
I have a lower third with a semi-transparent background that looks different once I bring it into Premiere. Tried exporting in different codecs (Animation, ProRes444) and changing alpha to straight, also tried embedding AE comp into premiere sequence. None of these methods produced the same effect as doing the overlay in AE, the transparency was lighter, portions of the background that were masked in AE became visible upon export as if the mask expanded slightly. I just want the final product to look like it does in AE, but I want to do the overlay in Premiere.

I am working on a HTML5 Panel extension.
I was able to debug the extension on chrome for few days, until one day it started behaving weird.
i can open the devtools using the debug port, but keyboard shortcuts dont work in console anymore.
When i type something in the console and hit return / enter key it just goes to the next line instead of executing the command,
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a problem with after effecs, when using the free position tool, it closes the program, it happens the same in the 2015 and 2017 version. Does anyone know what the reason is?
Whenever I import anything to my timeline and try to play it back it plays back probably 20-30% faster than it should. Even the timer counts the seconds way faster than it should. But if I do work on it and export it, the exported file will play at normal speed. On a maybe related note, I keep getting a message about not having enough space for the disk cache and no matter what I do it still says that... could that have anything to do with it? Should I just disable the disk cache thing? (I honestly don't know what it does) I don't know what else to say about it I couldn't find anything else about this specific problem so if you can find anything please link it to me. I am just extremely frustrated right now because it's impossible for me to properly edit anything like this.

Hello - I'm new to After Effects, but have been using it without problems for the past few weeks. Yesterday I went into Preferences and Emptied the Disk Cache and Cleaned the Database and Cache in order to improve performance. After doing that, playback of video or comp became veiled in black, with no audio. If I scrubbed with the playhead, I could see the video but that was the only way I could see anything. - I uninstalled and reinstalled AE 2017 but that didn't fix the problem. I uninstalled AE 2017 again and installed 2015. So far, 2015 is working normally. - Prior to installing 2015, I also upgraded to OSX Sierra so I could update my graphics card driver. That didn't fix the problem with AE 2017, but everything is up-to-date.
I'm using both .mp4 files and .mov files. The same files that were working and visible before adjusting the Preferences settings would only playback under a black screen after adjusting the settings.
I would like to be able to use the most current version of AE. Any suggestions as to how I can fix the playback issue with 2017? - I've looked on these forums and elsewhere and found a few other people describing a similar problem with a 'black screen.' The suggested solution often seems to be to empty the cache and clean the database. So, in my case, it seems the solution to some people's problems has been the cause of my problem. ???

Good Morning everyone. I couldn´t sleep last night because of the pressure of this project. Basically the client asked me to do a stop-motion animation based on a psd file with the "wrong" pictures because the final one are not ready. The layers are around 50 on the psd.
I´ve attached a screenshot where you can see what they are going to change: 
not the content, not the mask, but the original picture that are linked to the masks - keeping the same name (guaranteed).
My question is: what will happen to my animation on AE? Will it automatically upload the images? If not, what´s the best way to re-link them?
Or should I just do all the animation again uploading, copying the keyframe from the old one, using the new psd?

I am in need of some help with replicating the flowing lines seen in this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Kd61Y0cqU ) from seconds 14 to 25.
I can manage to animate the lines using 3D Stroke or manually animating a mask shape but what is puzzling me is the flowing, organic, color changing nature of the line.
Any idea how i might go about achieving this?

i am starting in this of sync and I want to mark the points of the music so I now when to sync but i don't know the button for put the mark (a direct button to mark) so if you can tell me the button or how to do it I will be happy.
I sometimes want to add a clip at my CTI (Current Time Indicator) rather than at my compositions 0:00. I can enter Preferences ->General and toggle this on and off when I need it. But boyo would it be convenient if there was a key I could hold down while laying my clips on the timeline or duplicating an existing. There isn't is there? I tried with Shift, Ctrl, Alt and in combos. At least I am unable to find it.
Now, I use Alt [ and Alt ] to trim my layers, this is close to the desired effect.
In After Effects CC 2014 I have an animated logo. Underneath it is an adjustment layer that I want to blur whatever is below it. The timing of the blur is defined by the timing of the animation of the logo.
Layers in After Effects:

When I import this composition into Premiere CC 2014, the animated logo appears over the clip just fine, but none of the blur effects appear on the clip.

What I do NOT want to do is create the blur layer in Premiere, because the timing of the blur is based on the animation of the logo, so it should be bundled with the After Effects Comp.
