My current version is Adobe After Effects CS6 11.0.3. It's problem is I can't update 13.02 version
I have a problem with After Effect version update because when I saved my After Effect project file at my Mac laptop, After Effect Verison was 11.0.3. So When I went to Mac desktop in edit suite room in University and tried open my project on the Mac desktop. The message pop out and said this project must be converted from version 11.0.3 (Macintosh 64). The original file will be unchanged. So Mac desktop have After Effect's version is 13.02 and I can't update my Mac laptop because I can' find After Effect 13.0.2 update file anywhere in the internet. so Can you help me to solve this problem, please because I will hand in my university assignment next month.

Is there any way i can use a mask starting from a sequence?
Hi, this is a weird question, i dont even know if AE can make this possible, but that's why i'm asking, i have this video, full of layers, but there is only one layer with fire, the thing is that i want to add 'Turbulent displace' only in the fire layer but also affecting the character that is behind it, but only in the places that the fire touches, is there any way to do this?

hello there,,I seem to be having a problem with this can you help me? I opened it and it says “After Effects: this project must be converted from Version 9 (Macintosh Intel) and will open as an untitled project. Standard Definition pixel aspect ratios will be updated for compatibility and improved accuracy. The orginal file will be unchanged.” after that I click ok and it says 14 files aren’t working. All this different stuff haha Im working this on a PC anything you do to help? Thank you.

After Effects CC doesn't show the Comp Screen

Since a few days, I have a really bad problem with AE CC. Everytime I'll open AE and start a new composition, everything's working fine. But the preview of my comp is not shown...
Neither a reinstallation of AE nor a reinstallation of my graphics driver solve my problem.

Newbie Help! changing color
Hey guys, new to After Effects and Ai.....so basically I imported an Ai file into illustrator and animated it....it's just the letter (H). I want the H to turn from green to blue, I opened the change color effects just fine and selected it and made the key frames on the correct layer but it just isn't changing, even as a working preview the colors just don't change but all the other animation and effects work. Is it because it doesn't have a fill? or do I have to make it a shape?

Editing frame accurate video clips in AfterEffects
I noticed that Aftereffects cannot perform frame accurate edits so playback from in and out points is several seconds off. Is it possible to achieve frame accurate edits in AE or should I import edited sub clips from Premiere with handles?

Footage - Large numbers of frames
Hi.
I am rendering off frames to EXR at 1080 x 720 using VRay from 3DS Max. My animation is 6600 frames long. I have the main scene and around 10 VRay render elements. The main scene EXR files are around 8Mb each. The render elements are a few hundred kb each. I am part way through rendering but have started to load the footage into A.E. ............. and seem to have locked it up.
Q.1. Is this simply too much data for A.E. to handle?
Q.2. Is there some sort of limit or a "sensible maximum" of how many frames can be loaded in A.E?
Q.2. Do I just need to look for tutorials on optimising A.E?
Q.3. Or should I be looking to create a series of shorter files that are manageable?
I do have a decent machine. Dual hexcore with 64Gb RAM and an NVidia Quadro K5000 graphics card.

Importing Blender to After Effects
Not that it much matters, but I'm running AECS3 on Win XP. Anyway, what I'm trying to do is find a way to import 3d files I created in Blender 2.5 into After Effects. I've spent quite some time trying to find a script or something that will work, but without much luck. The scripts I've found are for earlier versions of Blender and may not be compatible with 2.5.
Does anyone know of a script that will either:
- (from the Blender side) Export a Blender 2.5 scene/object in a format that AE will be able to import; OR
- (from the AE side) Add a Blender export format* to AE's list of file types it can import?
One other thing: Why can't AE import .obj files? That's an extremely common (from my experience since I also do some work in DAZ, and have played around with Cinema 4D which is way out of my budget) format for 3d....
* The formats that Blender 2.5 exports are:
- Collada .dac
- 3D Studio Max .3ds
- Autodesk .fbx
- Lightwave .mdd
- Wavefront.obj
- Stanford .ply
- X3D .x3d

"Unable to allocate memory" popup on Quit
First visit here, and hoping someone can help...
Following Creative Cloud updating my installation of After Effects to v12.1.0.168 today, I now have a frustrating dialogue box that pops up every time I quit... any ideas? This wasn't happening before AE was updated, and happens even if I have no other applications running. My system is a fairly standard mid-2011 iMac – 3.4GHz i7, 16GB RAM with AMD Radeon HD6970 2GB – and I'm currently still running OS X 10.8.5.
One other new issue is that if I double-click a project file in the Finder to launch After Effects, the project doesn't actually open, only the application.
I've tried rebooting, repairing permissions and also downloaded the 12.1 updater and re-installed just in case there was an issue with the CC download, but all to no avail

Working with Aspect Ratio to DVD - 800x600 projector vs. 720x480 DVD player
Hi there and thanks for reading. I don't post on this community often, so if there is better place for this question please point me there.
First a little about my project: I'm a student of fine arts and my current work involves the use of a projector and 2d and 3d objects. Projection mapping, or video mapping has been a budding art form for quite some time, but I do not use any of the current software applications that would be best for the medium. My current process begins by setting up a physical 2d or 3d composition in my studio space and projecting my PC desktop onto the scene with a common classroom style projector. I begin "mapping" objects in my studio with Illustrator, and then import my project to After Effects in order to animate my composition. If I set my project resolution to something that doesn't match my projector resolution and go to full screen, my software composition will not match my physical composition. After my project is complete and I'm ready to show visitors, I'll export a video and set it to loop.
For some time now I've been trying to work out a set of best practices so that my projects are clear and precise. Even the slightest bump and everything in the video mapping falls apart. Since my projector shoots a native 3:4 aspect ratio, and has a resolution of 800x600px, I set my Illustrator document size to the same. When I work in After Effects, I set my composition to the same res. and I make sure my settings are accurate when I go to export a video (typically h.264 format since I'm used to using my computer for playback).
My current problem involves exporting my project for playback on a DVD player. As far as I know, the best format for DVD playback is mpeg2-DVD. This format demands that I convert to 720x480px - which is not in accordance with my projector. Can this problem be solved with After Effects composition or export settings?
Any ideas, tips, or links that might be of help are greatly appreciated!
