*This error started randomly mid-editing, im a little worried i changed a setting by accident.
Whenever i RAM Preview and playback what i "rendered" the time marker/cursor whatever it is, doesn't move while playing, it stays wherever i put it before i RAM Previewed.
For me this problem is huge, it makes what i do very difficult and i need it solved! I've re-installed AE 3-4 times and theres no change.
PLEASE help me out!
OK, I've searched the Internet for a workable solution and nothing is working.
I'm on Mac OSX 10.10.5
Here are the things I've tried.
Set the port to 5030 in the effects panel.
What's strange is that even when I try to set the port in the Effects panel to 5030, it still notes 5027 in the error message.
I have purged the memory and restarted, and restarted and purged the memory.
I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of CC 2015.
Fixed permissions.
Cineware works fine in CC 2014.
CC 2015 works fine with Cineware on my MacBook Pro.
Not sure where to go from here.
Any ideas?
so im trying to track masks with mocha but its not working

i tried copying the tutorials exactly....create the mask with xspline, export shape data, copy to clipboard, go to aae and then edit > paste mocha mask...as u can see in my video, the mask that i created is still, and does not follow hillary the way it was tracked in mocha

in these tutorials i watch they dont show u how to add an xspline point after the mask has already been created
as in after u started tracking frame by frame, i would want to add another xspline, how would i do that cause i cant seem to find a way
another question is, how do i view how the tracked results would look? it seems from the tutorials that the assumption can be made that u results from your tracking is fine as long as the xsplines stay decently attached on
Hi there, new to the forum- and pretty bad with technology so apologies if I miss anything!
I edit simple videos with images popping up on the screen, and myself on screen with the background keyed out. Sometimes I use basic 3d effects, particle world, and the Ease and Wizz plugin. Really nothing extensive.
Recently after effects has been crashing for me more and more regularly every time I try to export, and now it crashes almost every time (it took me about 8 attempts to render out a 8 minute video recently).
I need to render with alpha channels, so usually use Quicktime animation format, and recently I've also been trying a TIFF sequence. Neither work, After Effects always crashes within the first hour of render. I have also tried restoring older versions of After Effects, and still have the same issue.
I have 16 gigs of Ram and an Intel Core i7-4790K CPU processor.
If anyone is able to help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'm making a template in AE for Premiere Pro and want to put an image into it. So far no problem.
But no there is the advanced stuff. I want to make a text box where I can put in a file path of an image (like "C:\Users\me\images\test.png"). I know how I get this string out of this text box. But my question is, if there is a way how I can load this image in after effects through an expression?

I am trying to install a previous version of After Effects CC and I have read that the default settings
when you update a program it removes all previous versions.
I need the older version so CINEWARE will work because I have also read that the new updated do not support 3-rd party apps that well and mine doesn't not run CINEWARE
.I have uninstalled and re-installed the entire CC and have yet to find an answer.
??Does anyone know either how to retrieve previous versions that have already been removed, or fix the Cineware problem. ??

How can I export and render fast in Adobe After Effects, I bought a new PC but it's not quick enough in my opinion.
I want to export a 1920*1080 60FPS project, 10 seconds long. It takes a very long time.
I have already set my GPU as processor but if I start the render and look at my GPU usage, After Effects won't use it.

I've been asked if it is possible to export a video from After Effects with a transparent background as an MP4 so it can be used in a web application (HTML based). My knowledge of video editing is very basic and I have no coding knowledge but I don't think this can be done. Does anyone know if it is feasible or not?
Totally new to after effects. Trying to track an animated file in MP4 format using tracker. I've got the tracking portion figured out, but I never get the "apply" button to activate - it stays greyed out. Also under "motion target" I can't select either button.
Would appreciate any help very much - I have a project I'm doing for my son's soccer team and I have to present it next week!
I do note that if I select stabilize it then allows both fields to be active and apply be clicked, but I don't want to stabilize, I want to create a motion tracker so I can insert a face into the moving area. Message was edited by: pprioroh
Created a puzzle piece animation with 50 .psd layers. Wanted to extrude them, so turned on ray tracing and got this.
Am AMD so guessing that means don't install CUDA
Thinking if I buy more RAM this will work. Anyone help me choose which ram module.

Or do you have another way to extrude that won't involve me spending money again.
Been struggling for a while to get this sorted. Had the laptop custom build in the UK. It's a beast, really great laptop and apart from the screen tearing and render lag issues until now, it's been great.
Both the latest versions of AF 2014 and 2015 didn't like the GTX card at all. I got serious screen tearing and sync issues, even after updating nVidia and Cuda drivers.
I ended up forcing afterfx.exe to use the Intel HD integrated graphics and it seem to have sorted most of my render issues. No more screen tearing, no more sync issues.
Kinda bumbed that the GTX and AF don't want to play together. Anyone else have similar issues with nVidia cards?
I noticed this question has been discussed in past years but never truely answered. So bringing it up again to see if there have been any improvements.
I was shooting some event footage at a corn maze and shooting with available light. That light was a series of cheap LEDs, street lamps, and so forth. All of which produced wide horizontal banding when my shutter speed was set around 1/60 and 1/80 of a second. Creating a post production issue where I have not found a solution just yet to remove the unsightly look. All likelihood I will just ignore the footage, however, that should not be the case in trying to find a solution to this problem.
There are plugins out there that "fix" the issue. But wanting to focus on just using plugins and techniques inside After Effects without resorting to third party plugins first. So has anyone encountered this issue and found a solution that can fix the problem? I am certain this has been an issue since DSLRs are so common place now for videography, that nearly everyone has this issue.
I'm editing a video in after effects and a random spot appeared on my video layer. This has happened more than once and I am unable to select it or delete it. Does anyone know the reason for this/how to fix it?

I have a strange bug in After Effects CC 2014 where footage that had been working perfectly fine suddenly shows as black, as if AE can't read it.
This happens with footage that is dynamically linked in, but also then when I import the original source footage directly - the result is the same, black frames. Strangely it is not universal, most of the footage is fine, but a number of the files will have this problem. My compositions are quite complex, with rotoscoping, trapcode and other plugins, and C4D components so its hard to know what might be causing the problem. I also had a Lumetri look from SpeedGrade applied on an adjustment layer over the footage initially but have since removed it in case that's messing with AE but the problem remains.
The footage is all 422HQ and from the same shoot / camera / card / storage device too so there's no clear reason why it would struggle with some and not others. All footage displays fine in Premiere.
This has happened to me twice on this particular project (and on another project before this). The first time I was unable to import and view the footage again even in a new project however in this latest instance if I go back to an earlier autosave of the AE project the footage is there fine, so while I'd guess that this time it could be a corruption in the AE file, that doesn't explain how the footage was unusable in a fresh project. And yes I purged 'all memory and disk cache' and 'image cache' and cleared my Premiere cache too.

I'm doing an animation with several female characters Rigged as puppets in after effects and was wondering if there is a way to make their hair and dresses react to movement so when they bob their head it flows and bounces into place, or their dress doesn't look completely stiff. The Dangle effect in Character Animator does this perfectly, but my character rigs are a little too complex to do inside there for most of my stuff. see: Making Your First Character (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial) - YouTube Is there a tool or an equation that would create that illusion of physics? I know I can if I go down to key frames and tweak it with each movement, but if there's an easier way, that would save a ton of time.

I am new to After Effects so please bear with my question. Is it wise to use Roto Brush on a still pic or should I remove the background in Photoshop? I have been playing with a 10 sec composition and the roto brush works great to remove the background, but then it has to work throught the whole ten seconds.
I have removed the background in photoshop, but this was a little more time consuming.
What is the opinion of the pros? Thanks in advance.

Dear graphic designers, I'm in search of a specific graphic effect, that I do not know the name of. I want to create it but I don't know where to start since I don't know the name of this particular effect.
The effect I'm refering to is the same as the effect in the letters in the image, but animated.
